All missions begin with the receipt of an operations order (OPORD)

Issue a warning order (WARNO) to your teams and plan a course of action, taking several factors into consideration (METT-C)

Teams should be a minimum of two (This is the smallest combat effective element) but maybe larger as the mission dictates

Each team reports directly to the mission commander

When moving, keep your head swiveling, scanning for enemy contact

Maintain good intervals between team members (10-30 feet) to reduce enemy opportunities to engage (one man is a waste of ammo, two are an opportunity)

Use hand and arm signals to communicate (this reduces your probability of being detected)

There are two engagement situations to consider. In both situations apply OODA

First, , OBSERVE (what is the enemy situation? What is your team situation? Do you have the firepower to overwhelm the enemy element? If so, how will you do it?)
Second, ORIENT (determine your location and the enemy location in relation to one another)
Third, DECIDE (engage or disengage?)
Fourth, ACT (execute your assault plan as quickly and violently as possible. Place maximum pressure on the enemy element and try not to allow time for the enemy to adapt to your plan)

Situation 1: You arrive at your target undetected with surprise on your side. Your assigned team places suppressive fire on the enemy position (base of fire) and your unengaged team moves (maneuver element) to engage the enemy flank or rear

Situation 2: The enemy detects you and you have lost the element of surprise. (The team in contact goes to ground and returns fire to suppress the enemy (base of fire) and the unengaged team begins moving (maneuver element) to break the ambush

In both situations, the maneuver element employs violence of action and assaults through the enemy position. As the maneuver element sweeps through the enemy position the base of fire must shift its fires away from the maneuver element while still keeping the enemy suppressed (sounds hard but it gets easier with practice)
Once the attack is completed, establish 360 degree security, assess your team situation, adjust forces as necessary and continue the mission
