Here are some basic team movement formations used to maximize team firepower dependent on the situation
Definition of Formations:
Formations are arrangements of combat elements and personnel in relation to each other. Squads use formations for control based on a Mission, Enemy, Terrain, Troops- Time and Civilians (METT-TC) analysis. Leaders are where they can best control formations. This allows the fire team leader to lead by example, “Follow me and do as I do.” All personnel in the team must be able to see their leader. Always maintain a 30 foot interval between members.
Abbreviations:
TL = Team Leader
AR = Automatic Rifleman (SAW or Support Weapon Gunner)
AAR = Assistant Automatic Rifleman
RFL = Rifleman
Basic Fire Team Formations:
--------COLUMN--------
------------RFL------------
--------------------TL------
------------AR-------------
--------------------AAR---
This formations permits rapid controlled movement and favors fire and maneuver to the flanks. This formation is vulnerable to fire from the front and fire power to the front is limited.
**Used when speed and control are governing factors such as through woods, fog, smoke, and along roads and trails
--------------WEDGE---------------------HEAVY RIGHT--------------------------------HEAVY LEFT
-----------------RFL------------------------------RFL---------------------------------------------RFL
-----------AAR--------TL--------------------TL--------AR----------------------------------AR---------TL
------------------AR-----------------------------------------AAR----------------------AAR
There are three variations on this formation. The basic fire team wedge which facilitates control, provides all-around security, is flexible, provide adequate fire in all directions.
**Used when the enemy is uncertain, and terrain and visibility require dispersion
The fire team wedge heavy right or left also facilitates control, provides all-around security, is flexible but provides increased firepower to the right or left flank.
**Used when the enemy is more predictable and terrain and visibility require dispersion.
SKIRMISHERS RIGHT------------------------------SKRIMISHERS LEFT
RFL------------AAR-------------------------------------AAR---------------RFL
----------TL--------------AR-----------------------------------------AR-----------------TL
These formations are difficult to control but provide maximum firepower to the front.
**Used when location of enemy is known, during the assault, and crossing short open areas.
ECHELON RIGHT--------------------------------------ECHELON LEFT
----------RFL------------------------------------------------RFL
AAR------------------------------------------------------------------AAR
----------TL--------------------------------------------------TL
AR--------------------------------------------------------------------AR
These formations are difficult to control and movement is slow but provides heavy firepower to the front and echeloned flank.
**Used to protect an open or exposed flank of a larger formation.

This formation is used when the wedge is impractical such as severely restricted terrain and limited visibility. The distance between members is dependent upon the situation. The TL is in the lead position with the other member’s position depending on the situation.
Okay, that is pretty much team formations. They are based on terrain, visibility and the direction requiring the most firepower.
