Very Happy ok swat are mostly CQB. i take CQB tactics and put them on a large scale i will stop in the middle of a feild and let my team mates move a little past my potion.(kind of a leap frog going forward) we move in 2 or 3 man groups and use small amounts of cover fire. Shadow 9 airsoft team is not know for going automatic. we fire in sort 2-5 round burst and we never move far from one another. (my team can go solo thuo and be quite good) any thing eles

I use a more traditional small squad tactic.

We stay in a loose grouping and use defensible positions and cover to set up ambushes and crossfire for opposing squads.

Usually just using superior cover and positioning we can take out most of a squad without even taking a step.

Assaulting is usually a bit harder to co-ordinate since we usually communicate entirely through hand signals, so fast movements aren't possible to co-ordinate.

PostSubject: Different mission for a different purpose...   Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:08 am

Hello everyone,

I personally don't use SWAT tactics for two reasons.

1. Although law enforcement trained, I am not SWAT Trained. Their mission is altogether different
than a military mission. Both use squad sized elements comprised of teams but the mission and
training are different. SWAT tactics are used against a lighter armed (most of the time) enemy
who operate without a support structure where SWAT ALWAYS has the advantage of numbers,
time, and basic support and a limited ability to act within the confines of legal systems.
The military mission, on the other hand, often assumes the enemy is well armed, has a basic support
infrastructure with resupply of troops and materiel while enjoying a much lower Rule of Engagement
in a war zone.
2. I prefer military squad size tactics and maneuvers because the other airsoft teams are equally
equipped, have nearly equal numbers, and unlimited rules of engagement. If you shoot first and
ask questions later, you are not using SWAT tactics. You are using small unit tactics regardless of
how you are "dressed". If you use limited Rules of Engagement with the intent to capture rather than
kill the enemy, time and support are on your side, and you are rewarded for not killing the opponent
instead of making kills at the first available opportunity, then you might be a practitioner of SWAT tactics.
Otherwise, you are using military tactics in a swat suit. Hooah!

Respectfully,

Not sure if SWAT tactics is what you'd call it, but rather a "Spec Ops" squad. Hellfire, Short, 1-2 other guys and myself are working on putting ours together.

First and foremost when you're trying to do something like this, the players in your squad are going to have to know each others play style well, and you need to squad together as much as possible.
Secondly, make sure you have a great comm. system, whether it be a throat mic system, or even learning basic hand signing, something to allow you guys to work efficiently together.

Get those two things down, and then worry about your tactics, and then you've got to practice.

There isn't any specific tactics you'll find that are always applicable, I've found alot of times, you'll have to improvise with what you've got going on. Don't get me wrong reading field guides and things are helpful, but don't rely on it.

Thats just my opinion on things, hope you find it helpful.

Listen to Mike, he's learning some good stuff in ROTC, HOOAH! To kinda go along w/what he says, a prime example of small unit tactics can be found by looking at the Lurps or LRRP's operating in Vietnam Republic of. The lurp teams operaten in 4-6, mostly in 6 man teams. Comms were paramount using hand signals. These guys were experts at their trade. It might be worth doing some research on them and reading some books on them. I can recommend quite a few as I have many. They go into detail on their training and tactics. Some of them even have the hand signals for team comms in the back. Someone needs to form a team patterned after the lurps. If they do, happy lurping!
