PostSubject: Star Aw-338 Review   Mon Nov 17, 2008 6:34 pm

Well i bought a Star Aw-338 over the past summer, and i was extremely excited, i know i payed way too much money for it, ($750) but once it got here to bham i went to test it out, i was using tsd .28 and green gas and the gun shot great......for a while. After a while it started having problems, the mag would leak and the bbs would roll out of the barrel when leaned foward, so i contacted asgi and they paid for shipping and everything and got me a new one two weeks after they recieved it. Once i got it back i used it on a skirmish @ MSU and it worked great, but i thought it was a bit weak (it was shooting 450) and after summer i started back to work and got really busy so i decided to sell it along with sling, ammo, and the original box. i actually made a profit of about 20 bucks. But here are some of the pros and cons:

PROS:
100% bad ass looking - one of the most intimidating guns when you pull it out along with your ghillie Twisted Evil
scope that came one it was zeroed in and was decent scope
Shot extremely straight and had great distance, 5-inch spread @ 120ft.
Adjustable cheek rest
Foldable Stock
Durable
Came w/ Bipod

CONS:
Heavy weighs about 11-13lbs.
Hop-up is a bastard to fix and no way you could do it on field
Mag leaked with the first gun
Bbs rolled out of barrel on first gun
Bipod doesnt sit snug, it wobbles if opened
Had to buy sling because of weight

Final Conclusion: The gun is not worth the money, im sure there are people out there that it works for better than i, but as for myself ill stick to AEGS and pistols. So if your looking to buy this gun IMHO DONT!!! not worth it at all.

Leaky mag and bb rolling out of the gun was only on your 1st one... you got a lemon, that's not a CON, it's just that you were unlucky.

And the weight... it could be either a PRO or a CON.

I would like to know the build quality/material of the stock.

tbh the stock is one of the best ive ever held on a rifle, its got adjustable cheek rest and stock plate, and it fits on your should like a glove, and its tough material. although i dont know what type it is but i know it strong because i dropped it a couple of times and it didnt even get a scratch

There is a chance in getting lemons on every gun.

lemon-free is impossible.

When I spend over $200 on a gun, I would expect it to be accurate at over 150ft and have realistic externals, but it seems like that paintball guns does not have either one.

i understand what both of you are saying seeing as how I use one myself.Yes the gun is quite heavy and I wouldn't suggest it to the smaller sniper.mine's not the Star, but made by ares. The guns one of the best I've seen and used.I'm hitting targets as far as 250 ft with 40g bb's,the FPS on mine using Matebas chrono at OP Druglord was 470 FPS with 30g's.And although the bypod is awesome i have to agree the darn thing IS to wobbley.mine new was 450.00 shipped came with everything But a scope which is no problem.I use a ZOS 10x40x 60mm with 5"sunshade on mine which makes the gun even heavier, lol.I wouls suggest the tanaka m700 A.I.C.S if you decide to go gas, which i also use.It came out of the box shooting 611 FPS with .20g's and putting 40g's acuerate at 150-200 ft.mateba and Chewbacca can verifey all of this.I've ordered a 650mm 6.00mm barrel for both, and would be happy to let you know how it goes if you'd like. Please excuse any flaws in my spelling i have big hands and it's a pain to type, lol.
