Won't need to upgrade the L-85, is my point. If you can't do the tech work you can't have a DMR. They are semi-only and need some attention. Mine is ready to go but it'll take a little technical know how if you want to take care of it on a long-term basis. M-14s are not hard but they can be a time-consuming disassembly if you're not use to it.

The G&G L-85 is a great rifle. Quit revolutionary in its time (Has almost every feature an AEG can posses). Most DMRs are not quiet (8mm bearings FTW, which the L-85 has), the L-85 just needs quality .28g BBs and a scope. The SUSAT is available as a replica. G&G and ARES/STAR make them. They are 4x mag and have a blade aperture. They are the only mil. issue optic for those rifles.

STAR makes nice optics but I'd go with the G&G this time. G&G has a better fit on their L-85-A2.

If you have become confused between DMRs and sniper rifles than that is fine but squad movements is very hard for bolty users. Bolt action rifles almost scream "lone wolf". If you're a sniper, you're lucky if you have a spotter, or aka a friend that patient enough to sit next to you while you have all the fun. DMs can run with a group and lay down accurate suppressive fire and take out key targets at range. I suggested the L-85 because it fits in this category. It on the lower end for velocity but it does not require the technical know how a full blown 450+FPS DMR would. Snipers are great at one (as far as shooting goes), their quiet and out range almost every player on the field. They are the slowest players on the field both in shooting and movement. They rely on concealment an cover to survive.

If you don't know what pre-cocking is you might want to wait before you close the book on this one. Pre-cocking is a feature that very few AEGs posses (actually I think there is just three). Instead of cranking the piston back before you shoot it cranks the piston after every shot. When you pull the trigger you are just releasing the piston not powering the gears to pull and release. This allows for a very quick and quiet semi-auto function. Going full-auto is just icing on the cake. This also takes M4 mags so you and your buddies can share once you're pinned and low on ammo.

DMR features:
quiet
maneuverable (short for 509mm barrel, easy to shoulder)
accurate
pre-cocking

Other features:
stamp steal body
Blow-back
piston release
quick take down
three piece MB
Bullpup design
threaded barrel
mock gas cylinder
nice trades and unique serial number
pistol grip has storage room (tools, Advil etc)

another long post,

I may look into that G&G L85 since we are getting the standard G&G GR16A3 for our main weapon, it just goes together.

Well, I've been gone for quite a while, but I'd like to weigh in on some of this discussion, as sniper rifles and DMR's are my favorite subject in airsoft.

A good, upgraded Spring rifle has certain advantages over a DMR:

1: Lower cost to upgrade, and generally easier to upgrade/disassemble.
2: Very Quiet
3: No batteries/Gas to worry about.
4: Topped out, these rifles have the greatest potential as far as distance/accuracy goes.
(Disclaimer: As with ANY weapon, the performance of your weapon will be dependent on how well you take care of it, and how good a job you do with your installation of upgrades.)

Now, a DMR has certain advantages too:

1: Higher rate of fire.
Well, that's really the only Pro, now that I think about it.....
as far as DMR's go, They can provide more rounds on target quicker, but suffer from the whine of a mechbox, reliance on a battery, and a much steeper price increase on top end upgrades, and require more technical knowledge to maintain the more complex mechbox.
