Operation INVISIBLE FURY

Location: NE Afghanistan

Objectives: To successfully capture Muhammad Al Sham, or eliminate him if no other option remains. Also, to neutralize local insurgency, lieutenants, and other officers while capturing enemy officers and intelligence on the field.

Background Intel: Coalition forces in Afghanistan have managed to locate and corral a commander of local insurgent forces, Muhammad Al Sham, more widely know as “The General”. According to information gathered from one of his defected lieutenants, he is within a few square miles around which infantry has surrounded. Given the potential value of intelligence held by bin Laden’s lieutenants as well as himself, Command has decided to have a joint Special Operations task force in charge of actually searching for the General on the ground. It is imperative that he be either captured or eliminated AT ALL COSTS. If it is at all possible, the General must be captured alive and in a condition conducive to the gathering of information. Intelligence says that enemy troop strength is relatively high, as the local population is sympathetic to the insurgents. Civilians and non-combatants however ARE PRESENT and steps must be taken to avoid civilian casualties.

The Special Operations task force will consist of both SEAL’s and Delta teams. The SEAL teams will be primarily responsible for reconnaissance, and the Delta teams will be in charge of more direct engagements. Current intelligence says that the enemy combatants have no armor, but may have access to technicals. Air support may be available for interdiction of hard targets and technicals, but due to the presence of civilians on the ground and problems with public relations, direct support fire on soft targets has been given a no-go. Also, due to the remoteness of the area, be ready to engage hard targets with LAW’s and AT-4’s, as air support will be unreliable.

Due to the mountainous terrain and concerns about man-portable SAM and RPG’s on the ground, teams will be transported to a local Army base and will travel by convoy to the area. A small base camp has been established on the main road through the area, and a more thorough briefing will happen here. Mission length is variable, and depends entirely upon the effectiveness of the teams on the ground, as well as the level, skill, and supply reserves of the insurgent forces. The mission could run in to the night, and the arriving teams should be prepared for night-time firefights and movements in case they become necessary.
