PostSubject: Operation jade dragon histori-sim   Tue Feb 03, 2009 8:56 am

Welcome to the 'Nam!

Operation: Jade Dragon Histori-sim.
A fellow Airsoft player and Vietnam veteran wrote on the subject "As a an Army veteran intimately familiar with both conventional unit operations and LRRP missions in SE Asia I have always felt that Airsoft and Vietnam simulation are a logical match. Compared to other periods in history the Vietnam war was for the most part a close in affair fought by small units in brief, often times highly violent, fast paced actions. The primary weapons used by both sides are almost entirely represented by Airsoft replicas with just a few common weapons not available. Without the need for expensive custom rifles and sub machine guns the cost of participating in Vietnam Airsoft is lower than contemporary impressions with their Kevlar helmets RAV vests and body armor. Uniforms are readily available at affordable prices and a wide variety of impressions are appropriate both for the US, her allies and the NVA and VC opposition forces."

When:
May 16th-17th, 2009 (Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday AM)
Field opens May 15th (Friday PM) for camping/socializing

Where:
4161 Old Seale Highway
Phenix City, Alabama (just across the river from Columbus, GA)

Cost:
U.S.: $60.00
Vietcong: $50.00

Registration & Payment:
Preregistration for this event is required, and closes 5pm Thursday, May 14th, 2009.
Register Here

Rules, Waivers, and Restrictions:
The minimum age is 16+ for this event.
All players will need a signed waiver. Those under the age of 18 will still need a parent to sign their Waiver.
All standard Georgia Airsoft Field Rules apply.

Uniform Requirements:
As with all of our historical events, this one has uniform requirements.
Please do not embarrass yourself by showing up for a Vietnam-era event in multicam, protec helmet, and tactical vest.
One of the most important factors in creating an immersive and enjoyable Vietnam simulation is the willingness of participants to take on a basic uniform appearance appropriate for the era and location. For this event, you must wear acceptable Vietnam war style uniform and headgear.
If you're not sure what is acceptable, ask!
Players that go the extra mile to produce a good impression will be rewarded with leadership positions and some extra special missions/treats.
A red handerchief-sized "dead rag" is required gear for all participants.

US Recon Team Thor personnel:
Olive drab or tiger stripe fatigues/bdus.
Black or OD boots.
Pot helmet (plain OD or Mitchell cover), OD or tiger boonie hat, green beret, olive drab doo rag, olive drab or tigerstripe cap.

Mainforce Vietcong D223 Battalion personnel:
Black, gray, or dark brown PJs or button up shirt and pants or BDUs or hospital scrubs or civilian Vietnamese peasant clothing of the period.
Green, khaki, brown, or black boots or shoes.
Black doo rag or headband, coolie hat, pith helmet, colored checkered scarf, or even nothing at all.

For cheap US uniform help, please click here.

Weapon and Magazine Requirements:
You may use any airsoft weapon so long as you remove modern (post-1972) accessories and rails (or simply cover the rails). Silencers covering a protruding inner barrel need not be removed.
We do ask that you please leave the more modern guns home for this one.

As with our other historisim events.....
You may use one highcap (winding) magazine
-OR-
Any number of midcap/lowcap/realcap (non-winding) magazines
Actual squad automatic weapons (such as M60 & RPK) may use a box or drum magazine.

NO:
1) No weapon accessories not available before 1970.
2) No modern tactical gear (late 1980's or later), i.e. tac vests, drop leg holsters, shingles, etc. Hide your camelback in a proper ruck or buttpack.
3) No uniform patterns other than those listed above.
4) No NVG, except actual AN/PVS-2 Gen 1 Starlight scopes for US side.
5) Period radios only (or none).
6) No Ho Chi Minh sandals (please).
7) No Def Leppard T-shirts, shorts, lime green jansport backpacks, huntin' camo, or similar wildly inappropriate attire.
Cool No T-shirts, period. A T-shirt is not a uniform.

All are invited, of course.

I feel your pain on that issue. I wouldn't want to do that either which is why I bought the ICS M4 for ease
of spring change out. Too bad that ICS didn't make their AK47 with a split mech box design although
that might be rather difficult given the real steel design. If they would do that for all of the weapons,
the other brands would have a difficult time to compete on such a great feature. My gun shoots over 350 as
well with .20g. I don't have a another upper mech box yet but this might be a reason for me to buy one just
for games like this.

Respectfully,
Mike W.

Lucky me! I have an M4 that's gonna work for this event. For those of you who've not been to this field, it's a VERY cool field. Lots of room to maneuver. I'm probably going to be in attendance at this event. Time to dig out some old web gear!

I think the reason they don't use that mechbox in anything else is due to all the problems associated with that box. I personally would never own one because I see split mechbox as a weakness. I prefer reinforced.

from personal experience working on the stock ics m4 ...i hate it!!!!!!!

the split gear box was a great idea but this gun constantly has some kind of problem. when it works its great though. im sure with enough high quality parts u could make it a good gun but the one i am working on is not mine

too keep on topic.............

I think i may go to this with the rpk set to semi only. that would make it usable.

Spring changes are pretty easy to do especially a downgrade. I was in the same boat I had to downgrade my weapons because they were running 357-361fps. I support the change however and the line in the sand...needless to say I know there is a lot of arguing about fps limits and this is not the place for that but the team and our main field drew a line in the FPS sand so to speak. It falls in line with the major event producers in Florida and the Florida Airsoft Association's limits. We do hope to see some of you guys at the event but understand if you can't make it due to the FPS thing. We knew it would cut out some people from the get go.

Just to clarify, every gun other than a bolt-action sniper rifles must be shooting at or below 350. So, joshuaearlwade, unfortunately, seting your RPK to semi won't fly for this op.
