Thats right, after a few months of down time, preperations are starting again as we build up to Eastwind III

East Wind Comms I Training Weekend Sept 19-20 2009

All hail the start of the East Wind training season!

The first course offered this year is Comms I. This is the first section of a 2 part course intended to give attendees the skills and knowledge they need to be an effective radio operator at East Wind events. With the introduction of the East Bloc R series radios and NATO PRC radios into the East Wind inventory there is a little more depth to the comms now and things are not as simple as just pushing the ptt and talking.

This is a shared course for NATO and East Bloc attendees. Some portions of the course both groups will be taught together where as others will be split between the sides to teach specifics of the gear involved. As is always the case, guests are welcome to attend which ever side is of the most interest to them.

Comms I:

RF theory (shared between East Bloc and NATO)
Legal aspects of radio use. (Shared East Bloc and NATO)
CEOI/SOI (Shared East Bloc and NATO)
Basic radio features (Shared between East Bloc and NATO)
PRC-25/77 operation (NATO) / R105M Operation (East Bloc)
PRC-68 operation (NATO) R392 Operation (East Bloc)
    Field practical exercises (shared)
    Night mission planning (Shared)
    Night mission (shared)
RT-70 operation (NATO) R107 operation (East Bloc)
Beam antenna demo, Long range comms demo (shared)
    Discussion/Q&A

Who is the target audience for Comms I? Anyone who will be using a radio at either East Wind or in the One Shepherd SLP program. While the information being taught is obviously aimed primarily at the use of VHF tactical radios, this is very useful and engaging information to regular milsim players of all types so naturally attendees who are neither One Shepherd nor East Wind are encouraged to attend.

Where: Dry Fork Campground, Mark Twain National Forest
To get to Dry Fork from I-70 get off on Exit number 137 (State Hwy J) and head south through the town of Millersburg staying on J going past the usual turn off at CR354, past Boydsville, till you come to the intersection of CR 356 where you will turn west following the signs for Dry Fork Campground. Stay on 356 till you come to the intersection of CR361 where you will turn south again following the signs for Dry Fork Campground. After a short jaunt down 361 you will see Dry Fork Campground on your right hand side.

When: The first portion of classes begins at 09:00 Saturday Sept 19th and the event endex is 13:00 on Sunday the 20th. Attendees are strongly encouraged to drive up Friday night and camp out.

How much does this event cost? Event cost is $25 and includes lunch Saturday, dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday.

What should attendees bring with them?

    Pencil and notepad
    Red filtered flashlight
    Uniform (your choice)
    Clothing appropriate to the weather
    Comfortable boots
    Camping/sleep gear
    Mess kit

In order to sign up post up your desire to attend here. Please let us know before Wed the 16th of Sept so that we can plan the food logistics.
