Agreed, Tru-Spec sucks, I had some of their woodland BDU's a while back and never used them again after a few games when I first started playing.

Please support your statement, Why do they Suck?

Did they Fade? Rip? Were they a general poor fit? Why did you quit using Tru-Spec?

What worked better?

Interesting on your viewpoint. My AROTC ACUs are Propper and they are not constructed as well as my Tru-Spec Multicam uniform.
My ACUs are in great shape but they are showing signs of wear from washing. Both Uniforms have taken normal wear in the field
although I must say that the ACUs have been fielded about a year long. My Multicams fit well, the cloth seems heavier, and seams
appear to be more sturdy. I don't think Propper is bad but I do think that Tru-Spec is better even though more expensive
($120/set vs. $78/set). The Propper just doesn't seem, in my use of both of them, to be as durable.

I guess experience varies but in the future I will buy Tru-Spec but I respect your experience with them as well.

Respectfully,

So I asked the question over at the Tenessee forum, as to mwhether or not Tru-Spec sucks, and I got a nice link on Uuniform care:

http://www.tnairsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=13423

Again, I'll need to get some play time in my woodland digi's, and then wash them to report any color differences, but the above link made me feel better about my purchase.

Does anyone have good links to info on proper Marine insignia display? I would like to complete my woodland digi with proper insignia display, to include our new patch ordered right here on the forum.

I do not plan to display any particular rank right now, just the US flag, name tape, Marine tape etc.

I was wondering if the Marines would be similar to the ACU display that is easily found throughout the net:

For a true Marine combat uniform, you won't need anything but a name tape and branch of service on your shirt. Also, 1 name tape over your right "butt" pocket. There is a Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA) embroidery in black thread on the left chest pocket. They don't wear rank in combat, only when they are on garrison duty (on base). I should say, some officers do wear rank on there utility's in combat. But, the smart ones don't. The rank would go on the front corner of the collars. These are black pin on type, easy to remove when it's needed. Marines don't wear a flag on their uniforms at all. The real issue utility's have no Velcro on the sleeves or under the pockets. They have buttons closing all pockets. They don't wear any type of unit patch at all. The Marines don't allow the wearing of any uniform off base unless they are serving in a official capacity.

For Airsoft, if you wear a flag, the star field should face forward. Your forum patch could be used on either sleeve. If your flag and forum patch are on the same sleeve, then put the flag above the patch.

From a war time stance, that uniform dress for the Marines makes perfect sense. From an airsoft point of view, it would be kind of drab...Great info, I had not found anything that mentioned these points. I knew that officers did not, or should not display insignia during wartime, and that troops were not to salute the officers...makes them good sniper targets.

So I can order name tapes...but because I ordered an after-market uniform, I won't have the EGA on the pocket. My uniform does have the velcro on it, including the sleeves. I could have saved a bunch of money had I ordered the standard uniform without all the hook-n-loop. The front zippers up, with velcro closure...I believe this is labeled a shirt and a coat. Here is a pic of the exact one I have:

I doubt I will milsim, whereby I must have the unifrom down 100% Marine loadout, or as close as possible...although it would be neat. Instead I will just load out from an airsoft look, which in itself would still be pretty neat.

Sorry to say this, but that is not a true MARPAT blouse. It is an ACU cut blouse in the MARPAT pattern. True marpat does not have velcro on the arm pockets, the chest pockets open to the top (similar to the 3rd pattern jungle fatigues), and the collar resembles the BDU collar more so than the ACU. And if you did want true marine wartime loadout, they wear DCUs, coyote tan IBAs with four double mag pouches (they are issued 9 mags; one in the gun, 8 on the PC), a grenade pouch, a dump pouch, a camelback, and a utility pouch, and PASGT helmets with DCU covers and NVG mounts. The maritime is the same, but with MARPAT instead of DCU.

I'm beginning to see that now...<bummed mode>

I still like/love it I guess...if I ever do go MilSim I'll have to mostly redo the BDU portion...</bum mode off>

Thanks!

Yep, That is a ACU cut uniform, You could have saved alot of money by getting real MARPAT, you can get a full set of real marpat for about 20 bucks if you know where to look.

They dont wear DCU's, if you referring to the 3 color desert. They still wear MCCUU, but in the desert variant. The Marines dont wear the IBA's anymore, they have been replaced with the Modular Tactical Vest (MTV). PASGT helments have been replaced with the Lightweight Helment (LWH) and some units are issued the MICH TC-2000 Combat Helment. Another substituion for the MTV is a Improved Load Bearing Equipment (ILBE) which is like the older US army LBE's.

Tell me about it...ebay is loaded with real MARPAT...just not in my size. Sad to say, I am a big guy, so it is after market copies for me.

Check out a shop in Scottsboro called Unclaimed Baggage, they are a store that sells stuff that people have left at air ports and such. I got my issue MARPAT and issue boots for around 30 bucks all together, and they have just about every size you could think of, plus they have ACU, and the Desert Marpat, and sometimes they even have Air Force ABU.

The bad part is, I'm on a diet, and fear that if I loose a buncha weight, I'll need to buy all new stuff anyways...losing weight is not a bad thing, but the monitary investment in my current Tru-Spec could be lost.

The upside is, that I might be able to fit real issue instead WOOT!

Sorry, I'll get back on topic now...

I have been told this before, and really need to give them a call. I have also heardthat there is an unclaimed baggage in Albertville as well. Thanks for the reminder.

Dragon64,

Look at it this way, when you are wearing your vest no one will see the chest pockets. I have issue MARPAT and I added Velcro to the sleeve pockets. I got my stuff for free, my son out grew his uniform and had to purchase more about 6 months before his enlistment was up.

I was referring to the desert variant. I know they phased out the 3-color a while ago. They may have officially switched to the MICHs and MTVs, but I have a friend in the marines, he still wears the IBA and PASGT helmets. But that is the story of the marine corps. They only get the leftover money from the regular navy, so they can't afford to be buying new helmets and PCs when the old ones work.

What this thread needs is more pics...RIGHT?!

Other forums have done this, and I was hoping it was the path that this thread would follow, and that it is for everyone to post some pics of their battle dress, or "war garb"

So I went outside and took some candids of me in my Tru-Spec's before they turned into crap Very Happy

So here is what I have:

Gear:

(1) Tru-Spec Tactical Coat and Pant set, Woodland Digital
(2) Condor double M4/M16 MOLLE mag holders, Tan
(1) Condor Single M4/M16 MOLLE mag holder for an extra M16 battery, Tan
(1) Tactical Belt, Tan
(1) Condor Drop Leg Speed Holster, Tan
(1) Tru-Spec Boonie, Woodland Digital
(1) ESS Goggles
(1) Pair of Brahma brand boots, Tan (Wallyworld specials)

Weapons:

(1) G&G M16A3
(5) G&G Midcaps
(1) Specter Armed Forces Deployment Package SOP Sling (TAN)
(1) WETTI Dark Dragon 45ACP HiCapa
(1) WETTI HiCapa mag

Nothing has been fielded...yet

New, this pattern blends quite well with the Alabama local growth...

I'm playing nice; I got my goggles on, and my finger off the trigger...

Stalking you...

Still looking...and pointing

Yeah..."Suck it in guys, we're the Ghostbusters..."

No snags or rips...so far, my Tru-Specs have done good for their first outing... Rolling Eyes

So thats me...I'm DRAGON64
