PostSubject: Gas Blow Back 101 Please...Searching For a Pistol   Thu Sep 10, 2009 3:07 am

I know little to nothing about GBB, and even less as to how one would support a system in the field. Terms like Green gas, and propane etc. lead me to thing that a soldier would need some ground support equipment (GSE) in order to keep the pistol operational during game play (?) Can someone point me towards GBB Pistol 101?

Here is my dilemma; I would like to outfit myself as a modern U.S. Marine Rifleman, and I have been looking for a quality AEP 1911 or similar standard issue sidearm for a Marine. Currently, I would only feel comfortable purchasing the CYMA Glock 18c, but it does not match the Marine criteria as ‘standard issue.”

But if I were to go GBB, then a whole new world opens up to me, and I can pick and choose an 1911 to complete my search…but I know nothing about the gas and the gun, as stated above…can someone point me in the right direction so I can learn myself something new?

Also, is there a good solid choice for a GBB for under $100

Posting to myself here…

I have been doing more reading, and it would seem that there really is nothing to GBB, fill’n-fire!

The gas seems to be only available online in 9oz cans, and a number of places carry it, with Airsoft Megastore selling it at just shy of $10 a can.

The WE M1911 seems to be quite promising, even looks good, but it is starting to push me over my $100 budget…budgets suck!!

Can I get some free advice on GBB pistols? Just starting out here, and don’t know much about airsoft, although I am learning a lot, but I really could use some sound info here…

You'll need Coleman camping fuel, aka propane. You can get it at Wal-mart. You'll need a propane adapter (Airsoft Innovations make the best) and 100% silicone. I would get 10-15w RC car shock oil. You can find this a RC car hobby shops. Many people don't care and just spray whatever silicone product they have into their adapters. Light weight silicone oil improves the GBBs function and helps maintain its action. You'll spend the same amount on spray anyway, might as well get the stuff that is better suited for it. Propane is the same as green gas, except it does not have oil in it. That's why you need oil, propane will dry your gun out. Drop a few drops of oil into the propane adapter every couple of mag fills and you'll be good. You are going to need several mags and a speed loader. I would use .23 or .25g BBs with GBB pistols. They help with range and accuracy and when it comes to 15-30rnd mag you could all the help you can get.

Tokyo Marui GBB pistols are awesome. They are accurate, gas efficient, crisp blow back and fast cycling time. I would recommend them if you are considering anything in the $120-150 range. KSC and WA also make nice GBBs.

good luck.

I'm telling you Tokyo Marui is the way to go. You will not regret the extra cash spent. The MEUs are actually hard to find in America because they are all sold out. The 4.3 DWs are a brand new release and the 1911A1s you should be able to find easily. Two years ago you could get TM GBBs for $115 over seas. Thanks Barry!
